Here at Raging Ruth Hops, our mission statement is simple
We are proud to announce that we now have Cascade AND Chinook hops. What's growing in the background? TATERS!!
Garrett is here helping with the planting of our new Chinook hops. Notice the corrugated pipe used for the "plant bed". This adds up front but so far has helped very much with yard maintenance.
Craig Jr. driving me around. I think I should be looking up, not down!!
We submitted samples of our hops to Virginia Tech. for analyses and results are as follows.
CASCADE CHINOOK
1 - Alpha Acid 6.49% 10.44%
2 - Beta Acid 3.29% 2.06%
3 - Storage Index 0.14% 0.26%
Our four trellises, Chinook is growing in the two to the left and the Cascade is growing to the right. Hope this year's crop will be much better than this photo :-) I'll be upgrading this one soon. We are also experimenting with a small batch of AlphAroma, Canadian Redvine and Magnum varieties to test their abilities growing in this climate and soil type.
Companion plants add a special touch that brings the hop yard to life.
The end product is what it's all about, and through good practices, great beer hops for your favorite recipe.
Our hop yard was established May of 2019 and the hop bracts pictured here are about 3 weeks old. The main goal for the first year will be root establishment.
By the second season, plants should reach a level of maturity that brings about a 50% yield.
Here is when plants should be at full maturity and give peak potential. Hope to see GREAT results when we get to this point!!!
Big Red and Arnold.

1957 JD 420s and a 1948 Ford 8n. They still help out around the farm.
